Members of the 2013 British & Irish Lions squad visited Syon House, west London, yesterday afternoon as official outfitters, Thomas Pink, presented the team with the Lions Collection for the 125th anniversary Tour to Australia.
This was the first opportunity the players were given to try on the custom-made outfits, following the squad announcement last month. The players, led by new Lions Captain and Thomas Pink ambassador, Sam Warburton, were greeted by the iconic Jermyn Street based tailors, to ensure every aspect of the fitting ran smoothly.
Thomas Pink Creative Director, Florence Torrens who played a crucial role in designing the new Lions Collection commented; “Over the past six months, 92 members of staff travelled up and down the country to measure all the players who were in contention for the Lions Tour. Once we were given the final selection, it was our job to produce items for all 37 players and the coaching team. The collaboration celebrates our relationship with British heritage sports- in this case rugby, and I’m confident that thanks to our quintessential British design, Britain and Irelands rugby elite will be dressed for success.”
The new Lions Collection, features an official Tour blazer, evening jacket and emblazoned tie alongside a number of casuals items for travelling and between matches, including a gingham check shirt, embroidered knitted jumper and a Merino wool woven 125 year anniversary scarf. During the five-week tour to Hong Kong and Australia, the squad will attend a number of official functions and community events where they will wear items from the new Lions Collection.
British & Irish Lions Tour Manager, Andy Irvine, said: “Everybody knows that the importance of a winning mentality in sport is paramount, and there are several factors that contribute to this. The 2013 Lions will be some of the best dressed sportsmen in the history of The Lions – and we believe that this winning mentality off the field will translate to a strong performance when the Four Nations come together as one on the field.”
Thomas Pink is the official outfitters to the British & Irish Lions Tour to Australia. The Lions Collection is available to purchase across all Thomas Pink stores, thomaspink.com and select John Lewis stores.
