LFW – BETHAN HOLT’S GUEST BLOG #4: What’s Trending?

With just one day left of LFW, we have started to notice some strong messages coming from the shows. I’m afraid it’s not so clear cut as “60s!” or “Grunge!” but there are done definite themes emerging which you might be interested to hear about….
Miami colours: Preen designers Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi told us on Sunday morning that the zinging fuschia, bright whites and popping yellow hues which ran through their show came from how they imagine Miami might be (they’ve never actually been). These are colours we’ve seen at other shows including Christopher Kane and Peter Pilotto today.
Modern Evening: The only new designer to win a place on the LFW schedule this season was Brazilian Barbara Casasola. If you’re sick of the same old spangly dresses and prom skirts for occasion wear then you might be pleased to hear about Casasola. She makes evening outfits which are elegant but also a bit sexy. I loved her reference to using the colours you’d find in your make-up bag or jewellery box.
Trapeze jackets: There have been lots of gorgeous opera coats on the catwalks- out Alice Temperley and Emilia Wickstead for the chicest versions- but a more wearable version of the trend is the shorter trapeze jacket. Roksanda Ilincic did a great version of these which she made having studied vintage 50s jackets. I love the popping orange print on this one. Notice the way it’s worn with very slim trousers (a little like Thomas Pink’s Kimberley tux) to balance out the silhouette.
